I’ve now been in The Philippines for seven months. The plan was five months and as of April 23 I will have passed the six month mark and my OHIP may no longer be honoured nor my Johnson/Medoc supplementary insurance. Every day presents the risk that I may have an illness or injury requiring medical/hospital treatment and I quickly move closer to the bankruptcy cliff.

There comes a point in everyone’s time in quarantine when you can’t stand your long hair any longer. In my own case I wasn’t quite tired of my lengthening hair. In fact I was thinking the last few years the style was too short. I was wondering whether artists such as myself should have long and flowing locks, much like Mark Twain, or Pinchas Zukerman.

I’m beginning to see why the Birdman of Alcatraz became attached to his birds. After years of confinement his birds were almost his only friends. And I find in my own confinement in Dasma I look forward to my squabbling and squawking sparrows who seem to have adapted to our clock.
